Who really knows what teenagers want? Here's waht I found out today that is fascinating.
The #1 concern for teenagers is abuse. How do I stop it. How do I respond to it. What would I do if it happened to me? I know I'm a child safety expert but I never would have thought that.
I also found out the #2 concern for them is, how to handle abuse that happens to someone they know. I found this out from extensive research completed by a couple of my favorite authors.
I just listented to a CD that highlighted a discussion with Mark Victor Hansen, aka one of the two guys behind "Chicken Soup for the Soul" fame. You may know that there are "Chicken Soup" books for just about every interest, including "Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul." I didn’t until now.
Who would think a book for teenagers was going to be so wildly popular but it still is...worldwide! I found this today for you:
http://www.asianage.com/presentation/leftnavigation/asian-age-plus/books-plus/a-solution-for-every-soul.aspx
You may have to search for one on eBay today but if you have teenagers they'll enjoy their own copy.
I also found out when they write one of these books they take great care to choose the stories people are interested in reading. They tested some 6,000 stories and some 80 topics with teens and the abuse concern came to the fore.
You, your teenager – if your child is that age – may be interested in additional information of "abuse." There's a couple of great sites we recommend for your teenager or family. Share some information with them. Open a dialogue with your child if they are this age. See what they think.
Domestic Abuse Relationships and other abuse Education and knowledge are very powerful.
