Google keeps me in the loop. Seems like Myspace pops up in the news, again and, you guessed it, online safety and internet security. The words “child predator” comes up big today ans search engine winners, undortunately.
Major headlines on another predator pretending to be who he is not. Story is the same: young girl falls into trap, meets fake pal face-to-face, gets molested. It's a well written and great story by Joel Marino of the
South Florida Sun-Sentinel.When is enough
ENOUGH!
States are starting to mandate their schools provide online safety education. We’re helping with that, too. For every sensational story there is still the majority of kids and people online who have no idea of the traps or pitfalls.
It is time for parents and kids to wake up. Even some basic knowledge and responsibility will help!
Here it is: never,
NEVER, EVER assume the person you meet online is exactly who they say they are. Twelve years olds can even understand this.
Here’s another: never,
NEVER, EVER agree to meet anyone face-to-face you meet online without parent’ permission.
The more we can continue this mantra the safer we’ll all be. I hope Mr. Marino can go on to reporting on other stories.
…Hats off to Joel Marino
